EconoCents is published by the EconoCents Editorial Team under Venero Ventures LLC. This page explains how our pages are researched, where the numbers come from, how often they are checked, and what to do if you find something wrong. It applies to every lender review, lender comparison, state law page, and guide on the site.

Where our figures come from

Every rate, fee, loan amount, and term on a lender page is taken from that lender’s own published materials: its rates page, its terms and disclosures, its state-specific disclosure pages, or a filing with a state regulator. We do not copy figures from other review sites, and we do not estimate a number a lender has not published. Where a lender publishes only a range, we show the range. Where a lender publishes nothing, the page says so rather than filling the gap.

State law pages cite the statute or the regulator’s published rule for every cap, term limit, or prohibition they state, by section, in the text. The payday loan cost by state guide shows the formula used to turn each state’s fee cap into a dollar cost and an APR, so any reader can check the arithmetic.

Lender pages note the month and year the figures were last checked. Guides show their published and updated dates.

What we do not do

  • We do not invent experience. Our team has not applied for every loan we review, and we do not pretend to have. Reviews are built from published facts, with math and tables a reader can verify.
  • We do not accept payment for a review, a rating, or a position in a comparison. See how we make money for what we are paid for.
  • We do not let lenders or lending networks edit our pages. A lender may ask us to correct a factual error, and we check the claim against its published materials before changing anything.
  • We do not name or rank lenders by what they pay us. The rating methodology describes what star ratings measure.

How pages are updated

Lender figures are rechecked against the lender’s own pages when we learn of a change and on a rolling schedule, with the most-read pages checked first. State law pages are updated when a statute changes or a regulator publishes new guidance; each page notes the effective date of the law it describes. When a page changes materially, its updated date changes with it.

Corrections

If you find a figure, a citation, or a statement that is wrong, email [email protected] with the page URL and the source that contradicts it. We check every report against the primary source. Confirmed errors are fixed on the page itself, with the updated date changed; we do not quietly edit figures without changing the date.

Who writes the site

Pages carry the byline EconoCents Editorial Team. The team researches and writes under Venero Ventures LLC, a Texas limited liability company that owns and operates the site. EconoCents is not a lender, does not make credit decisions, and is paid by lending networks and lenders when a reader submits a loan request, as stated at the bottom of every page and in the privacy policy.

Compliance

Loan pages are reviewed against the advertising standards of the lending networks we work with before publication. Promotional language that those standards prohibit does not appear on the site, and an automated check runs on every build to keep it that way.
